Euripos jewelfish
Body elongate, oval, strongly compressed; head bluntly pointed, strongly compressed; eye moderate size, without fleshy papillae around its edge; mouth strongly oblique, opens at front, rear of top jaw exposed when mouth closed, with accessory bone above it; nostrils close together; tooth patch on center of roof of mouth oblong to diamond shaped, not prolonged at rear; preoperculum with rear margin serrated, lower corner without spines; 42-43 gill rakers; dorsal fin with X,15; anal fin III, 7; pectorals 18; pelvics inserted slightly before base of pectoral, rays of each fin form a long filament that reaches back to center of rear edge of tail; tail strongly concave, with long filamentous lobes; scales moderate sized, rough, 33-38 on lateral line; head and jaws almost completely scaled.; scales with a few accessory scales on head, but not body; lateral line complete.
Head orange red above shading to yellowish orange below or red before eye, violet after eye, white below; iris red, with an inner yellow ring; a pale yellow ring around eye; 2 yellow stripe on side of head, 1 from mid-eye back to edge of operculum, another from under front of eye back to edge of operculum; body orange red, with rows of yellow spots on scales of the lower 2/3 of the body; tail base yellow; dorsal fin yellow green, tinted with red (or with red at front, blue at rear); tail fin bright yellow; anal fin bright yellow; pelvic fins bright yellow.
Reaches 24.4 cm.
Depth range: 338-344 m.
Known only from the pass separating Puerto Rico and Hispaniola.
