Channel Scabbardfish

from tip of snout to dorsal-fin origin, with a prominent longitudinal crest on nape; eye moderate sized, on mid-side of head; nostril is a crescent; mouth large, lower jaw slightly projecting; front of top jaw with several fangs, front of lower jaw with a pair of fangs; side teeth on both jaws conical, sharp; roof of mouth with a row of fine canines on each side, nothing in center; gill rakers spiny, 9-10+1+15-19 rakers; rear end of gill cover broadly rounded; dorsal fin elements 78-88; no notch between spines and rays, 1st spine not elongate; anal fin with 15 visible rays; 1st anal-fin spine scale-like in shape; pectorals low on side, triangular, lower rays longer; pelvic fins present, scale-like; a small forked caudal fin; lateral line straight, nearer lower body profile than upper profile.

Body silvery white, pale reddish brown on upper part; body with several yellowish stripes; dorsal fin membranes blackish at front; head and front of dorsal fin without blackish margins.
