Broadband Anchovy
Body fusiform (depth 20-25% of SL), somewhat compressed; snout prominent, conical, projecting, short, bluntly rounded, projecting past tip of lower jaw; rear of the mouth extends well behind the eye; lower jaw suspended below head; upper jaw rear bone blunt and short, reaches preoperculum; lower gill rakers 19-25; gill branch under gill cover small (<eye); anal fin with short base, 15-17 branched rays, its origin behind the center of the body, ~under end of dorsal fin base; large scale inside base of pectoral reaching beyond ½ length of that fin.
Grey above; a broad (eye diameter wide under center of dorsal fin), very bright silver side stripe, narrow at both ends; tail fin yellow, with dusky tips and rear edge.
Size: to 11 cm.
Coastal waters and estuaries.
Depth: 0-50 m.
Colombia to Brazil.
