Smooth-suckered Clingfish
Body and head relatively slender (both viewed from above); front nostril without a skin flap; front of both jaws with a single row of flattened incisors, some with 3 points; top jaw with 2 canines, 8-9 incisors, lower jaw 2 canines, 6 incisors; a small fleshy swelling at pectoral base; 1 dorsal fin, at rear, no spines, 7; anal fin like dorsal fin and under it, origin under dorsal ray 4-5, 6 rays; pectoral 20; only a small fleshy swelling at pectoral base; sucker disc with broad patches of papillae at front (6 rows) and rear (7 rows) but no papillae in center, front edge of disc smooth, without fleshy tabs; anus nearer anal fin origin than sucker; tail fin 10 segmented rays; no scales; lateral line present as pores on head only.
Head greenish grey; snout dark brown; several oblique dark lines under eye and on lower operculum; a dark brown blotch on top of nape; body reddish brown above, white below; ~5-9 dark brown bars from top to bottom of body, last 4 bars are very wide; dorsal, tail and anal fins with black base, clear center, reddish outer edge. Fish may alternatively have upper 2/3 of head and body very dark brown.
Reaches 2.3 cm.
Lives on vertical rock walls.
Depth range: 5-14 m.
