Minute Whiff

Body relatively deep (49-53% of SL); eyes on left side, close-set, only a narrow bony crest between them; mouth small (27.2-28.5% of head length), ends under front edge of pupil of lower eye; teeth ~equally developed on both sides of jaws, fixed teeth in 1 series on each jaw, no canines; gill rakers short and flattened, 6-7 lower rakers; 69-74 dorsal fin rays, origin of fin over front edge of upper eye; anal fin 54-56 rays; pectoral fins on both sides of body, with branched rays, eye side fin 9 rays; pelvics symmetrically positioned on belly, base of eye-side fin on body midline, short bases; urinary papilla on blind side, immediately behind anus; lateral line well developed on both sides, eye-side line ~straight, no branch under lower eye, from edge of opercle to tail base; scales finely rough on eye side, smooth on blind side, 34-38 on lateral line; inner 2/3 of tail fin, dorsal and anal fin rays and all body and head except snout scaled; body without accessory scales.

Pale yellowish brown; without distinctive marks on body or fins.

Reaches 5.2 cm.

Lives on soft bottoms.

Depth range: 1-20 m.

Panama to Venezuela.
