Four-eyed flounder
Body deep; eyes on left side; upper margin of head concave before eye; teeth small, conical, 1 row on jaws, equally developed on blind and eyed sides; lower gill rakers 6-9; dorsal origin ~over or slightly before top eye, all front rays short, no fleshy projections at tips; dorsal rays 62-84; pectoral fin on both sides of body, with branched rays, larger on eye side; pelvic fins symmetrically positioned on belly, eye-side fin longer than blind side fin, inner rays of eye-side fin extensively branched, base of neither fin on body midline; urinary papilla on eye-side, anus on blind side; lateral line well developed on both sides, strongly arched over pectoral fin, with a branch under lower eye; scales on eye side rough.
Brown, 4 large ocelli with dark centers on eye side – 1 above arch of lateral line, 3 in a triangle, rear ocellus is on rear, straight lateral line; a dark ocellated spot on ~center of rear edge of pelvic fin; blind side dusky.
Reaches 25 cm.
Lives on soft bottoms.
Depth range: 30-207 m.
Colombia to N Brazil.
