Ninelined Goby
Elongate; snout pointed; eyes close together (~pupil diameter); upper jaw overhangs lower; a central pore between front edge of eyes; front nostril a short tube with a flap, reach nostril a short tube; upper lip almost completely joined to snout, free only at rear; no teeth on front of roof of mouth; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; dorsal fin VI + I, 11 (10-12); length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; anal fin I, 9; pectoral fins 17 (16-18); pelvic fins I, 5, disk complete, circular, reaching ½ way to anus; no scales; no lateral line.
Upper head and body dark grey-brown; body with 9 thin vertical bright blue bars; iris red; lower parts of head and gill cover salmon to pale brown.
Reaches: 2.5 cm.
Habitat: lives in association with sea urchins in upper tidal zone in clear. waters.
Depth: 0-3 m.
