Slaty goby
Elongate; head compressed; mouth opens at front; top lip separated from snout by groove; upper teeth in 4-5 rows, outer enlarged and needle-like; lower jaw with 6-7 rows of teeth, outer enlarged, two enlarged canines towards the anterior end, on each side; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; dorsal fin VII + I, 11; length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; anal fin I, 9; pectoral fins 17-20; pelvic fins I, 5, disk complete; tail rounded; no scales; no lateral line.
Body, head and fins slate grey; snout with a short central yellow bar, from between the eyes to near the top jaw; a short yellow stripe from behind eye to above pectoral fin.
Reaches: 3.0 cm.
Habitat: Lives within sponges, Neofibrularia sp.
Depth: 15-70 m.
NE to SW Caribbean.
