Leopard goby

Elongate; head rounded; snout short; groove between upper jaw and snout; tongue straight edged; teeth in upper and lower jaw with several rows at front, outer row enlarger, large canines present in both jaws; front nostril well developed tube; rear nostril a raised rim only; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; dorsal fin VII + I, 10; length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; anal fin I, 9 (8-9); pectoral fins 16 (15-17); pelvic fins I,5, disk complete; tail rounded; V patch of 4 rows scales (4,3,2,1) on tail base, 4 large rough scales on tail fin base; no lateral line.

Translucent; head with brown blotches on opercle, two brown bars under eye; side of belly with 2 large square brown blotches bordered in a cream figure 8-shaped mark; row of prominent dark spots along each side on top of body, from eyes to tail fin, another row along lower part of tail base; spinal column with alternating cream & black dashes.

Reaches: 1.6 cm.

Habitat: Found on live coral heads.

Depth: 1-30 m.
