Semiscaled goby
Elongate; a pore midway between front of the two eyes; 2 pores on preopercle; head rounded; snout very short; front nostril a short tube; rear nostril with a raised rim; teeth in upper and lower jaws with teeth in narrow bands, outer enlarged, inner row not enlarged, large canines absent; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; dorsal fin VII (1st spine elongate in males) + I, 10 (9-11); length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; anal fin I, 8 (7-8); pectoral fins 16 (15-16); pelvic fins I, 5; disk complete; tail rounded; 8-13 rows of rough scales on tail base; 4 very rough scales on tail fin base; no lateral line.
Dark grey; 8-9 internal dark bars on body behind pectoral, some in the form of Ys, 3 widen when they pass across white belly; head reddish, with several dark bars and 3 short white bars outlined in black below eye; vertical fins not barred.
Reaches: 1.9 cm.
Habitat: Vertical walls & in holes on horizontal hard substrate in surgy areas.
Depth: 0-5 m.
The Bahamas to the S Caribbean.
