Shortstripe goby
Elongate; head compressed; a pore midway between front of the two eyes; 2 pores on preopercle; mouth U-shaped, a little under snout; upper lip separated from snout by a groove; tongue tip truncate; upper jaw teeth in two rows, outer short with teeth progressively larger laterally, the last one or two fang-like, larger in males; lower jaw with numerous rows of small teeth at front, inner row short with enlarged fangs (1 or 2) at rear in both sexes; no teeth on roof of mouth; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; dorsal fin VII + I,10-11; length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; anal fin I, 9 (9-10); pectoral fins 19-20; pelvic fins I, 5, disk complete; tail rounded; no scales; no lateral line.
Snout grey to yellowish, rarely with a tiny bright yellow spot; body pale grey; a short bright yellow stripe, bordered above and below by dark lines from top of eye to above pectoral fin, outlined above and below with dark grey that extends back to tail as a broad dark stripe, ending on tail fin base as a pointed streak
Reaches 5.0 cm.
Habitat: found in tube sponges; generally just inside the opening of a tubular or massive sponge.
Depth: 4-119 m.
Bahamas to the SE Caribbean. Its distribution is apparently exclusive of, but complementary to the distribution of E. horsti.
