Translucent Goby

Body compressed; head broad, somewhat flattened; head without pores; papillae on most parts of head and nape; jaw extends to vertical below pupil; front nostril larger than rear nostril; tongue tip not 2-lobed; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; dorsal fin VII + I, 10; length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; anal fin I, 9; pectoral 17-18, fins I,5, completely separate, without front frenum, without membrane joining inner rays, rays 1-4 branched, without flattened or fleshy tips, 5th ray unbranched, much shorter than 4th, < pelvic spine; no scales except 2 very large rough scales on tail fin base; no lateral line.

Color: yellowish brown; a large dark spot on cheek; 6 narrow dark reddish brown bars on body between pectoral base and tail base, one more on operculum just before the gill opening, another on tail fin, bars extending on to the dorsal and anal fins; 1st dorsal fin dark, with a clear broad outer edge.

Reaches: 2.2 cm.

Depth: 2-82 m.

Habitat: coral reefs.

The Bahamas to Brazil.
