Citrine Goby

Body moderately elongate; head convex and moderately compressed; eyes large (diameter 10 -12.2% of SL); mouth large, very oblique; teeth in 2 rows, the outer row enlarged; front of roof of mouth no teeth; gill membranes broadly joined to body under throat, with 5 rays; dorsal fin VII (middle spines elongate in some fish) + I, 11-12 (rarely 13); length of 2nd dorsal base > distance from 2nd dorsal base to tail fin; anal fin I, 11-12 (rarely 13); pectoral 20-23; pelvics fused to form disc, front margin of disc scalloped; tail fin long and lanceolate; scales large, rough; body, top of head, and nape fully scaled, 28 rows from upper angle of pectoral to base of tail fin; lower margin of cheek lacking scales; no lateral line.

Drab yellow, body often with median row of ~5 very faint blotches those not connected by a pale stripe; no black stripe above upper lip; iris dark; first dorsal with distinct black blotch; dorsal fins and top half of tail fin with dark bordered, oval yellowish-orange spots, the border of which is still visible in preservation; pelvic fins usually very dark, to black.

Reaches 7 cm.

Depth: 30-71 m.

Habitat: Mud bottom.

Hispaniola to the S Caribbean.
