Naked blenny
Elongate, worm-like body; short, bluntly pointed head with large oblique mouth; cirri on nostrils, over eye (flap-like), on nape, and on lower corner of preoperculum; teeth on front of roof of mouth; rear edge of preopercle covered with skin; dorsal fin composed entirely of spines, XLI-XLVI; anal fin II, 21-26; dorsal and anal fins at most slightly joined to tail fin; pectoral fin well developed, 8-9 rays; pelvics I (internal), 2-3, inserted before pectoral base; all fin rays unbranched; no scales; no lateral line.
Red-brown to green to dark grey; sometimes mottled with dark blotches, or with dark or white spots; typically a pale bar angled down and back from eye.
Reaches 4 cm.
Lives in hard substrata on exposed shorelines.
Depth range: 1-5 m.
The Bahamas to the S Caribbean.
