Lucayablennius zingaro (Bohlke, 1957)

Arrow Blenny

Elongate; head elongate, pointed, not spiny on top; no cirri on nostrils, eyes or nape; jaws long; top lips only on sides of jaws; tip of lower jaw with a pointed fleshy projection; 1 row of teeth on each side of roof of mouth; dorsal fin XIX-XXI, 19-21 soft rays, no notch between spines and rays; lower pectoral rays longer than upper rays; pelvics I (internal), 2-3, inserted before pectoral base; all fin rays unbranched; no lateral line; no scales.

Reddish with yellow marbling on rear of body; a dark brown stripe from operculum through eye and along side of snout; a yellow stripe along top of head from snout to nape, another along upper back; 3 large black spots on upper back and basal part of soft dorsal fin, 2 such spots on lower body extending onto soft anal fin; dorsal and anal fins darker in male.

Reaches 5.7 cm.

Lives on reef dropoffs; resting fish sit inside tube sponges.

Depth range: 7-109 m; usually below 15 m.
