Tayrona blenny
Body elongate; head short and blunt, without spines; snout with a pair of smooth bony ridges; nasal cirrus short, simple, ~3/4 length of eye cirrus; 1 short (1/2 eye length) cirrus over eye; 1 row of teeth on each side of roof of mouth; dorsal fin XIX-XXI, 11-13, 1st spine with a flag like flap on front edge, 1st two spines similar, longest, a little elongated (1.5X length of 3rd spine), 4th spine <3rd, longest soft ray 3/4 length of longest spine; anal fin II, 18-22; pectoral rays 13; pelvics I (internal), 3, inserted before pectoral base, much shorter than pectorals; all fin rays unbranched; no lateral line; no scales.
Male - head dark brown above; body pale brown; 4 narrow vertical lines on snout, 4-7 oblique dark bars on cheek and opercle; spiny dorsal dark brown between spines II-V, other spines pale brown, outer parts of membrane red between spines I-V, with a white space between red and brown parts, dark spots on fin behind spine V and on upper body; rest of fish translucent. Female - translucent, with scattered dark dots.
Reaches 3.6 cm.
Lives with dead barnacles, and on firecoral and massive corals.
Depth range: 0-20 m.
Colombia to the Gulf of Venezuela.
