Redspine blenny
Body elongate; head thick, short and blunt, without spines; snout with a pair of smooth bony ridges; 1 short (<eye) simple cirrus over eye; 1 row of 6-7 teeth on each side of roof of mouth, front of roof of mouth with 10 minute teeth in 2 patches; dorsal fin XX-XXI, 11-13, in male first 2 spines elongate, but 1st not much longer than 3rd, that part of fin with oblique rear edge, no notch between elevated and following spines, female with 1st 2 spines elongated, spines III & IV short, with a notch between them; anal fin II, 20-21; pectoral rays 13; pelvics I (internal), 3, inserted before pectoral base, much shorter than pectorals; all fin rays unbranched; no lateral line; no scales.
Male: head brownish orange; body translucent; spiny dorsal fin black, with outer edge of front spines red, with a white line separating those two colors; inner 2/3 of anal fin brown; eye cirrus dark; female: brownish head, translucent body, elongate dorsal spines with pale white and brown mottling, no spotting on head. In both sexes underside of head without dark spots; edge of opercle without stripes.
Reaches 2.3 cm.
Lives on eroded limestone bottoms and on patch reefs.
Depth range: 6-26 m.
