Filament blenny
Body elongate; head short and blunt, without spines; 2 smooth longitudinal ridges on snout; 1 unbranched cirrus over eye that is ~twice eye length; head cirri shorter in female 1 row of teeth on each side of roof of mouth; dorsal fin XXI-XXIII, 14-16, an obvious gap between spines II-IV, first 2 spines of male very long and filamentous, the 1st spine ~2/3 SL, rest of front of fin not elevated, female has same elongate spines as male at front of dorsal fin, rest of fin a bit lower than that of male; anal fin II, 23; pelvics I (internal), inserted before pectoral base, longer than pectoral, with 2 obvious rays (3rd ray vestigial or <1/5 length of longest ray); pectoral 14; all fin rays unbranched; no lateral line; no scales.
Body cream, with faint irregular dark bars on upper body; two rows of white spots from behind eye along body, top row of 14 spots alternates with small burnt orange spots along under first 8 spines of dorsal fin, 7 in row along mid-flank to under 20th dorsal spine, orange spots between front 2 white spots of lower row; a white or orange spot before pectoral base; head cream, with dark dots, edge of preopercle with 6 white spots, midline of operculum burnt orange; iris yellow, a black ring around eye; long spines at front of dorsal fin black, with 11 white stripes, remainder of fin with black base, white outer edge; anal fin black with white edge; tail fin with clear base, black remainder; pectoral clear; pelvics black on base, rest clear. Female is less pigmented than male.
Reaches 2.6 cm.
Found on vertical rock faces of dropoffs.
Depth range: 15-20 m.
