Body elongate; short blunt head; short knobby spines on a pair of ridges from snout to between eyes; no papillae between eyes; multiple rows of well-developed teeth on side of roof of mouth; 1 pair of moderately branched cirri over eyes that lack fingers; nostrils with cirri; dorsal fin XXI-XXIV, 16-19, front of fin with fleshy flap, no notch between spiny and soft parts; anal fin II, 25-28; pelvics I (internal), 2-3, inserted before pectoral base; all fin rays unbranched; no lateral line; no scales.
Mid-brown to yellowish; small irregular dark & pale spots behind eyes and on throat; several alternating rows of dark brown spots along upper side of body; a dark blotch between dorsal spine I-IV, fin without pale spots; a yellow stripe along the border of the spinous dorsal,
Reaches 4 cm.
Lives in holes on patch reefs in clear water.
Depth range: 1-14 m.
