Surf Blenny

Elongate, snout bluntly pointed; no barbell on tip of chin; cirri on nostrils (simple or with up to 4 finger-like projections), over eyes (tip rounded, with 4-7 lobes); 2 nape cirri, each with 2-6 finger like projections; opercle with spiny projection; dorsal fin composed primarily of flexible spines, XXVI-XXVII, with 0-2 rays, deep notch between 3rd and 4th dorsal spines, front spines elevated; pectorals usually 13; pelvic fins I (internal), 2; all fin rays unbranched; several rows of scales on pectoral base; lateral line complete, continuous, arched over pectoral fin, 29-30 scales; smooth scales on rear of body.

Brown, mottled, with 3-4 irregular dark bars on rear of body; a white blotch from behind eye to base of pectoral fin, several more whitish blotches behind that; dorsal fin with 6 dark bars (1st on the elevated front spines), anal fin with 4 dark bars; 1 small ocellus on rear 1/3 of dorsal fin, none on anal fin.

Reaches 2.8 cm.

Lives in eroded rocky areas, with algal mats and sea urchins.

Depth range: 0-7 m.
