Whitecheek Blenny

Body robust; head broad, snout blunt; eye large; a branched cirrus over each eye, 2 or more heavily branched cirri on each side of nape; mouth large, slightly oblique, rear of top jawbone exposed, not in a sheath; patches of small teeth behind outer row of large teeth on upper jaw; teeth present on sides of roof of mouth, those are smaller or equal to teeth at front of roof of mouth; notch between spines and rays of dorsal fin, XVIII, 11, 1st spine shorter than following spines; anal fin II, 18; pelvic fins with I internal spine, 3 soft rays, 3rd ray vestigial, inserted before pectoral base; all fin rays unbranched; 40-44 lateral line scales; lateral line tubes or canals at least on front of body; smooth scales on rear of body.

Dusky brown, body with 8 faint darker bars and a grid of dark spots; an oblique, black-edged white bar under eye; no ocellus on operculum; a dark spot at front of dorsal fin; fins, belly and throat yellow.

Reaches 6.5 cm.

Found in areas with good coral cover, in exposed situations.

Depth range: 0-15 m.

Bahamas to the S Caribbean.
