Enneanectes altivelis Rosenblatt, 1960

Lofty triplefin

Head moderate, body robust; front of eye and around nostrils not spiny; a short, broad cirrus over eye, no cirri on nape; no teeth on sides of roof of mouth; top of head and upper opercular margin spiny; 3 dorsal fins: III + XI (X-XII) + 8 (7-9), first fin higher than second, normally some soft rays branched; anal soft rays 15 (14-15); pelvics I (imbedded), 2; pectoral 14 (13-14);  operculum with a patch of rough scales;  lateral line in 2 straight, slightly overlapping sections, scales on front part pored 11 (10-12), those on rear part notched, 19-22; pectoral base and belly scaled; body scales rough; 2 rows of scales, top row small  above notched part of lateral line.

Body translucent, head with a orange cast, iris red; body with 5 oblique brown to nearly black bars that extend onto anal fin, last bar not darker than rest & its top front corner indented; middle body bars edged with orange spots; 1st dorsal with 4-6 dark stripes; no dark spots along base of 2nd dorsal fin; anal fin with 6-7 dark bars.

Reaches 4 cm.

Lives on reefs in sponges and coral heads.

Depth range: 5-45 m.

The Bahamas to Brazil.
