Mago stardrum
Body elongate, more or less compressed; head large, low and broad, skull cavernous, translucent, spongy to touch, wide between eyes; eye small; mouth large, strongly oblique, opens at front; teeth in lower jaw of equal sizes, without enlarged central row; chin with 6 pores, no barbels; snout with 8 pores; preopercle with >4 strong bony spines at angle; gill rakers short, 27-29; top corner of gill opening notched; deep notch between spiny and soft parts of dorsal fin, X + I-II, 20-22; anal fin with short base II, 7-8, 2nd spine thick, ¾ of 1st ray; pectorals long, reaching above anal fin origin; pelvics long, filamentous tip ends behind anus; tail fin long, with a blunt point; pored lateral line scales 46-47; scales rough on body and head, on top of head to between eyes; the lateral line extends to the center of the end of the tail fin.
Silvery grey above, whitish below; fins clear.
Reaches 11.5 cm.
Hard sandy and mud bottoms in estuaries, mainly of low salinities
Depth range: 0-20 m.
