Body elongate, moderately compressed; head long, low; eye small; snout ~conical, projecting beyond horizontal mouth; chin with 4 pores and a pair of eye-length barbels; preopercle edge smooth; 15-18 slender, long gill rakers; top corner of gill opening notched; dorsal X-XI spines, 37-39 rays; pectoral fin very long, with top rays filamentous, reach nearly to tail fin; anal fin with short base, II weak spines, 7-9 rays; tail fin long and asymmetrically pointed; scales smooth, none on dorsal fin; the lateral line extends to the center of the end of the tail fin.
Brownish to yellowish; pectoral fins jet black; inside gill cover dusky; bases of pelvics and anal fins yellowish.
Reaches 30 cm.
On mud bottoms of coastal areas, marine and brackish water.
Depth range: 1-30 m?
