Ocellated Pipefish

Head ~11% of SL; snout moderate length, upturned, depth 30% of its length, with low, finely serrated ridge along top; a ridge along top of operculum; dorsal 22-27 rays; pectoral 12-14 rays; no anal fin; no pelvic fins; tail fin 10 rays; 17-18 trunk rings, 30-33 tail rings; ridges on upper body and tail not joined; ridge on mid side of body straight, ends near anus; lower body ridge joins lower tail ridge; brood pouch under tail, with semi-overlapping plates pouch under tail rings 14-19.

Grey brown; mottled; with whitish spots, often in vertical rows, forming bars, especially on the tail; rear of body yellowish-grey; snout yellow-green above, reddish below; cheeks olive brown, with oblique yellow lines; fins transparent.

Reaches 9.3 cm.

Rock and coral, also in algae in mangroves.

Depth range: 0.3-30 m.
