Backwater Silverside

Slender, elongate, compressed, body depth >15.8% SL; least depth of tail base >8.5% SL; top jaw strongly extendible, premaxilla with rear end greatly expanded, without expanded bony process above its center; sensory pits on top of snout are 4 large quadrangular depressions; <18 (usually 15-17) gill rakers; first dorsal V, spines, origin well before origin of anal; anus about midway between origin of anal fin and base of pelvic; tips of pelvics reaching vent; pectoral short and blunt, but reaches just past origin of pelvic; flank scales with smooth or irregular (but not fringed) rear edges; pelvic axillary scale >1/3 fin length.

Pale to translucent; dark speckling above prominent silver flank stripe .

Size: 7.2 cm.

Habitat: coastal lagoons, schooling.

Depth: 0-10 m?

Colombia and Venezuela.
