Elongate; sensory system on snout not as 4 large quadrangular pits; top jaw extendible, premaxilla with rear end greatly expanded, without expanded bony process above its center; 13-16 lower gill rakers; dorsal fin IV, its origin just behind line through the base of the anal fin spine; anal rays I, 17-18; pectoral 13, short, reaching only to about base of pelvic fins, inserted high on body, above mid-level of eye; mid-side scales about 48-49; 6 transverse scale rows; 17-20 scales around circumference of body; at most a couple of scales on base of first few rays of anal fin; a large scale at base of pelvic fins.
Pale brown with a slight yellow tint above; prominent midlateral silver stripe; tail fin dusky, sometimes tinted with orange-pink.
Size: reaches 7.5 cm.
Habitat: coastal marshland and estuary.
Depth: 0-10 m?
Known only from the Totumo lagoon, Colombia.
