Elongate; sensory pits on snout not as 4 large quadrangular pits; top jaw extendible, premaxilla with rear end greatly expanded, without expanded bony process above its center, rear margin of jaw curves down, doesn’t reach level of eye; lower gill rakers 20-29 (rarely 19); dorsal rays IV (origin behind origin of anal fin) + I,12 or fewer soft rays; pectoral fins long, reaching past pelvic fins, inserted high on body, above mid-level of eye; mid-side scales 35-40, rarely 41; transverse scale rows 7-9; body circumferential scales 18-22; anal fin scale sheath not extending beyond midpoint of base of fin; a large scale at base of pelvic fins.
Bright yellow to yellow green; top cross-hatched with dark pigment lines; a dark silver midlateral stripe.
Size: reaches 9.8 cm.
Habitat: primarily freshwater but enters brackish water of estuaries.
Depth: 0-10 m?
