Red-striped clingfish
Body slender, only slightly depressed at front; head narrow, snout short, profile angular, with mouth opening at front; eyes small, wide apart (eye diameter 56% distance between eyes); front nostrils are elongate tubes, without a flap, rear nostrils slightly tubular; top lip broad at front, narrow on sides; teeth in 2 rows at front of both jaws, with 3-pointed incisors at front of both jaws; 5-7 short, blunt gill rakers; median fins short; 1 dorsal fin, at rear, no spines, 7; anal fin 7, like dorsal fin and under it; 1st ray hidden on both dorsal and anal fins; pectoral rays 26-27; a poorly developed fleshy pad on lower pectoral base; sucker medium sized, papillae small, 6-7 rows at front with 10 pairs behind that group, 8 rows at rear, with a forward pointing V shaped group of 8 papillae on narrow central part of the sucker; no scales; lateral line present as pores on head only.
Scarlet, with a chain-like pattern of small pale spots on side; 5 dark red lines radiate from eye, including a dark bar down and back from eye, a dark red stripe back from top of eye, two between eyes, head paler between those lines; iris white; fins red, except clear pectorals; outer edge of front of dorsal and anal fins with a dark red-brown spot
Reaches 2.1 cm.
Red coralline algae on sandy bottoms.
Depth: 67-68 m.
