Moderately deep and compressed; snout prominent, conical, projecting, moderate & pointed, its tip above center of eye; rear of the mouth extends well behind the eye; lower jaw suspended below head; top jaw bone short, with blunt rear tip that does not reach angle of mouth; suboperculum bone with angular rear tip; 51-52 fine slender lower gill rakers, no gill rakers on rear face of 3rd arch; gill membrane not joined across under throat; dorsal fin origin at about midbody; anal fin base long, 20-25 branched rays), origin under mid-point of dorsal fin base.
Width of sliver flank stripe up to 1.5X eye diameter.
Reaches 15 cm.
Lives in estuaries and rivers.
