Trinidad Anchovy
Moderately deep; snout prominent, conical, projecting, sharply pointed but short (<eye); rear of the mouth extends well behind the eye; lower jaw suspended below head; upper jaw long, tip pointed, reaching almost to edge of gill cover; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; no large canine teeth; 18-22 lower gill rakers; top limb 3rd gill arch with 6-7 rakers; patch of gill filaments under gill cover short, not extending onto gill cover; anal fin with moderate base, 26-30 branched rays, origin under middle of dorsal fin; pectorals almost reaching base of pelvics; anus nearer pelvic tips than origin of anal fin.
Blue-green above; width of silver stripe on flank <eye diameter; fins clear but dark pigment at bases of anal and tail fins.
Size: 14 cm.
Habitat: coastal, especially in mangrove-lined lagoons.
Depth: 0-10 m?
Colombia to Trinidad.
