Anchoa lamprotaenia Hildebrand, 1943

Bigeye Anchovy, Silverstripe Anchovy, Regan's Anchovy

Elongate, relatively slender; snout prominent, conical, projecting, pointed, ~3/4 eye diameter; rear of the mouth extends well behind the eye; lower jaw suspended below head; upper jaw long, tip pointed, reaching edge of preopercle; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; no large canine teeth; 17-21 lower gill rakers; top limb 3rd gill arch with 6-7 rakers; patch of gill filaments under gill cover short, not extending onto gill cover; anal fin with moderate base, 18-23 branched rays, origin under center of dorsal base; pectorals short, not reaching pelvics; large scale in axil of pectoral fin reaches past center of that fin; anus nearer pelvic fin tip than anal fin origin.

Silver stripe on flank ~3/4 eye diameter wide, with a dark line above.

Size: 12 cm.

Habitat: marine, pelagic and coastal.

Depth: 0-49 m.

The Gulf of Mexico to Brazil.
