Moderately elongate; snout prominent, conical, projecting, moderate (~1/2 eye or a bit more); rear of the mouth extends well behind the eye; lower jaw suspended below head; upper jaw tip bluntly pointed, not or just reaching rear edge of preopercle; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; no large canine teeth; 24-29 lower gill rakers; top limb 3rd gill arch with 6-7 rakers; patch of gill filaments under gill cover short, not extending onto gill cover; anal fin with fairly short base, 19-25 rays, origin under middle of dorsal fin base; pectorals short, not reaching pelvics; large scale in axil of pectoral fin reaches past center of that fin; anus nearer pelvic tips than to anal fin origin.
Silver stripe on flank ~1/2 eye diameter wide.
Size: 8 cm.
Habitat: marine, pelagic and coastal, enters estuaries.
Depth: 0-10 m?
Lake Maracaibo (Venezuela) to southern Brazil.
