Longfinger Anchovy
Elongate, relatively slender; snout prominent, conical, projecting, long and pointed, only slightly <eye; rear of the mouth extends well behind the eye; lower jaw suspended below head; upper jaw long, tip pointed, reaching almost to edge of opercle; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; no large canine teeth; 21-27 lower gill rakers; top limb 3rd gill arch with 6-7 rakers; patch of gill filaments under gill cover long, extending onto gill cover; anal fin with short base, 17-21 rays, origin at or behind level of last dorsal ray; pectorals with a long filament (often broken) that reaches to dorsal fin origin in large fish.
Silver stripe on flank broad (~eye diameter wide), a dark line above; upper part of head and back with numerous irregularly arranged dark dots; lower part of head silver.
Size: 12 cm.
Habitat: marine, pelagic and coastal .
Depth: 0-35 m?
Caribbean to Brazil.
