Narrowstriped Anchovy
Elongate, relatively slender; snout prominent, conical, projecting, short (~3/4 eye), pointed; rear of the mouth extends well behind the eye; lower jaw suspended below head; upper jaw long, tip pointed, reaching to rear edge of preopercle; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; no large canine teeth; 17-20 lower gill rakers; top limb of 3rd gill arch with 6-7 rakers; patch of gill filaments under gill cover short, not extending onto gill cover; pelvics reach under dorsal origin; anal fin with short base, 17-21 branched rays, origin under ~center of dorsal fin; pectorals short, not reaching pelvics; anus nearer anal fin origin than tips of pelvic fins.
Grey-green above; width of silver stripe on flank ~pupil diameter.
Size: 12.5 cm.
Habitat: marine, pelagic and coastal over sand and gravel bottoms.
Depth: 0-55 m?
Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.
