Bermuda Anchovy
Elongate, relatively slender; snout prominent, conical, projecting, short (3/4 of eye); rear of the mouth extends well behind the eye; lower jaw suspended below head; upper jaw reaches nearly to edge of opercle, tip sharply pointed; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; no large canine teeth; 24-27 lower gill rakers; top limb 3rd gill arch: 6-7 rakers; patch of gill filaments under gill cover short, not extending onto underside of gill cover; anal fin with short base, 19-22 branched rays, origin under or behind midpoint of dorsal base; pectorals short, not reaching pelvics; axillary scale of pectoral fin only reaching midpoint of fin; anus opens nearer depressed pelvic tips than anal fin origin.
Width of silver stripe on flank ~3/4 eye diameter.
Size: 12.6 cm.
Habitat: marine, pelagic and coastal.
Depth: 0-10 m?
Endemic to Bermuda.
