Key Anchovy
Elongate, relatively slender; snout prominent, conical, projecting, short (<eye); rear of the mouth extends well behind the eye; lower jaw suspended below head; top jaw long, tip pointed, reaching almost to gill opening; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; no large canine teeth; 16-19 lower gill rakers; top limb of 3rd gill arch with 6-7 rakers; patch of gill filaments under gill cover short, not extending onto gill cover; anal fin moderately long, 21-26 branched rays, origin under origin to middle of base of dorsal fin; pectorals short, not reaching pelvics; anus nearer anal fin origin than pelvic fin tips.
Width of silver stripe on flank slightly <eye diameter.
Size: 9 cm.
Habitat: marine, pelagic and coastal.
Depth: 0-10 m?
Bahamas to the Caribbean.
