Rhynchoconger flavus (Goode & Bean, 1896)

Yellow Conger

Elongate; head and body ~30% TL; tail slender, narrowing to a point; snout strongly projecting, with fleshy keel along underside of tip; front nostril tubular, near lower front of snout; rear nostril an oval hole before about mid-eye; top and bottom lips with flanges, larger on lower jaws; teeth small, conical; tooth patch under snout that is outside mouth when closed is round, as long or slightly longer than wide; tooth patch at center front of roof of mouth square, as wide as long, with several rows of teeth; dorsal fin begins over or a little before pectoral base; dorsal and anal fins continuous with the tail fin; pectoral well developed; pectoral base ends above gill opening; a complete lateral line, pores along upper jaw small; no pore in front of rear nostril.

Pale, fins edged in black; stomach and intestine pale.

Reaches 200 cm.

Soft bottoms.

Depth range: 25-732 m.

The Gulf of Mexico and eastern Florida to Brazil.
