Margintail Conger

Body stout, ~cylindrical; tail 54-61% of TL; snout rounded, tapered; eye large (~snout length); front nostril tubular, near tip of snout, points forward & to side, with small pore behind; rear nostril a hole or tube in front of eye, below mid-eye level, with small pore above; lip flanges on sides of both jaws; hollow behind top lip flange not divided; jaw teeth in 2 irregular rows, outer row forms a cutting edge; top of mouth with a squarish patch in center, 1-2 rows at rear of lower jaw; dorsal origin over pectoral fin; pectoral fin well developed; top of gill opening above top of pectoral fin base; tip of tail stiff; dorsal and anal fins continuous with the tail fin; pores behind eyes; lateral line pores 40-43.

Grey-brown; edges of dorsal and anal fins dark.

Reaches 50 cm.

Lives on sandy bottoms, associated with reefs

Depth range: 0-70 m.

Transatlantic; the SE USA, Bermuda to Panama.
