Chola Guitarfish
Body and tail shark-like; snout long, pointed, with 2 central cartilaginous ridges, producing an elongate triangular disc; disc longer than wide; snout tip not flattened and expanded, tubercles absent or round or flat; a large spiracle immediately behind each eye; gill openings on underside; nostrils large, nostril length <1.2X of distance between nostrils, and equal to or slightly >1/2 mouth width; 2 equal-sized dorsal fins, the first behind the pelvics; one row of thorns along back; well developed tail fin that lacks a lower lobe.
Upper surface olive grey to brown or red, occasionally with darker blotches and cream eye-sized spots; lower surface yellowish.
Reaches 100 cm.
Lives in sandy areas, beaches and estuaries.
Depth: 0-110 m.
The southwestern Gulf of Mexico to Argentina.
