Blacknose Shark
Moderately stout; eyes round, moderately large, lower nictitating eyelid present; snout long, its length >/= mouth width, 1.4-1.7 times width between nostrils, thin-tipped, rounded; top teeth narrow, mostly oblique tips, coarsely serrated bases, outer edges deeply notched; lower teeth with smooth, narrow tips; only 12-13 rows of upper side teeth; spiracles absent; gill slits 5, short (3rd slit 2.4-3.2% of TL), without papillae, last two over pectoral fin; first dorsal fin relatively small, convex front edge, rear tip pointed in adults, origin over or just behind pectoral fin free rear tip; second dorsal moderately large, its origin over anal fin origin, rear margin concave; no ridge between dorsal fins; pectoral fins small, narrow; no keel on tail base; tail fin strongly asymmetrical, with well developed lower lobe, undulating ridge along dorsal surface of top lobe, and a notch under tip of that lobe.
Grey or yellowish brown above sides and belly paler to whitish, dusky blotch on tip of snout; 2nd dorsal and upper tail lobe with dark (not black) tips; underside of pectoral pale.
Size: 137 cm.
Habitat: Coastal waters over sandy, shell or coralline bottoms.
Depth: 9-90 m.
