Banded cleaner goby


Elongate; head rounded; upper lip connected to snout at front; a pore midway between front of the two eyes; 2 pores on preopercle; no teeth on roof of mouth; tongue with blunt tip; dorsal VII (fin elongate in both sexes) + I, 11; anal rays I, 8-9; pectoral rays 18-20 (usually 19); pelvic fins fused in a disc; tail rounded; no scales.



Head translucent with 3-4 red bars; body translucent yellow with narrow wavy blackish bars that are narrower than the pale interspaces; dark internal blotches along mid-line of body.


Size: grows to 3.2 cm.

Inhabits coral and rocky reefs. Cleans parasites from the surface of other fishes.


Depth: 1-30 m.


Central Gulf of California to central Mexico.
