CommentsOther specimens of Dictyopteris justii in Panama were collected at depths of 10-15 m and were heavily epiphytized along the midrib region (Wysor and De Clerk 2003); in contrast, the Bocas specimens were growing at 3 m depth. This species could be confused with Dictyopteris jolyana, but the medulla of D. justii is only 1-2 cell layers thick, which is a key characteristic distinguishing the species.
