Taxonomic StatusValid, currently synonym of A. paracrinitus; status will be confirmed by Anker et al. (in prep.). 
Geographic DistributionTropical Indo-West Pacific [IWP]: Red Sea and N Indian Ocean to Taiwan, Singapore and Hawaii (see map). 
FrequencyRelatively common in suitable habitats. 
HabitatSand-rock-rubble bottoms, usually close to reefs. 
Depth RangeIntertidal and shallow subtidal to about 15 m. 
Life History and BehaviorFree-living, usually in pairs, under rocks and in crevices of corals, coralline algae conglomerates and coral rubble.

RemarksThe photographed specimen from Taiwan was compared to the original description of A. bengalensis in Coutière (1905) and found to agree with it in all important points.
